Erika is a sociologist and earned a Ph.D. in political science at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). Currently, she is a lecturer and associated researcher for the Complutense Institute of International Studies (ICEI), Special Advisor of the High Representative/Vice-president of the European Commission, Non-Resident Senior Fellow at Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center of the Atlantic Council, and Coordinator of the Academic Committee of the Gate Center. Her professional career includes many years of experience as an international consultant, providing advisory services for international organizations, governments, and think tanks. From 2016 until 2019 she was a member of the Madrid City Council, as spokesperson for the Economic and Taxation Commission. She has conducted research in various fields, such as international politics, Latin American studies, and security and development. Her papers and articles have been published in different international journals and books. Additionally, she is a regular analyst on TV, radio, and print media. In 2018 she was recognized with the Bogota`s City Council Medal for her job in favor of women’s representation; in 2019 she was awarded as one of the ten most relevant Colombian citizens in Spain and in 2023 and 2024 She has been chosen as one of the “Top 100” woman leaders in Spain.
